The Power of Education in Social Media
Where is social media heading for the business world?
At Brandswag, we have been thumbing through the different strategies that could make a business successful in social media. This is (of course) not the only form of marketing that should be used by a business but it just happens to be our expertise. We have been building strategies, helping with implementation, and many times running entire campaigns for a client through social media.
Where is the diamond in the rough? Have we found the perfect way to be successful using social media for business? Not really. We are still on the bleeding edge of a massive communication shift in our world. We are seeing cellphone use skyrocket and the mobile industry explode. We are also seeing social media growing at exponential rates and yet people are stumbling all over themselves to try and make a difference… to try and create value.
The power is in education. It is no secret that social media, the Internet, and technology will (and is) transforming the way consumers communicate with brands. Business identity has created a huge fallout with many business but has also catapulted some to the limelight or growth and cash flow.
Educate your people on the power of social media. As a CEO or business leader you NEED to be focusing on the potential of the Internet and social media turning your business upside down. This is a must.
Educate. Educate. Educate. The power is in your hands. Prepare your team for the onslaught in the next couple of years and you will see your business thrive… and not fail.

You make good points here. I think some in the industry decrying “social media is dead” (Geoff Livingston for one) are dead wrong. It’s alive and well. However, I think what will separate the pros from the amateurs will be understanding and being able to devekop strategies that engage people.
Like the Gutenberg Press, which had been used for some forty years before Martin Luther nailed his Theses on the university gates, social media is the new gutenberg. It’s a tool, and like those who printed and resdistributed Luther’s Theses — surprising ML when he received a printed copy — those that understand the “why” and “how” of the new medium will possess tremendous power in the future. Wait, wer’re seeing that now. But more is to come.

Heads of top U.S. companies snub blogs, Facebook: study
I saw this first hand many times, and there are some great examples of failures here locally in corporate Indiana. Wellpoint (go ahead and keep hiding in your office, Ms. Braly) is a good example.
