Absolutely.
Well, in light of Good Friday I am going to confess that I lied to you. Absolutely Not. You do not have to read every tweet that falls across your lap on TweetDeck or at the Twitter website.
Twitter is a tool that helps people sound off about ideas, good reading material, and everything in between. You do not need to ALWAYS be involved in the conversation to get a lot out of Twitter. There is a couple exception.
When some replies to you (@) it is important that you respond back to them. They are communicating with you. Social Media is another communication medium much like television and radio. The best part about the new form of media: you can communicate back and forth.
The other exception? When someone Re-Tweets you (RT). When a person RT’s your information it means they found it valuable. Send them a Direct MEssage and thank them! The people who listen to what you are saying deserve that type of respect.

I think my brain would explode if I read every single tweet that flies through my Tweetdeck. You just try and cherry pick information that seems interesting to so (I use a very non-scientific method) or try and participate in a conversation. If you accept that you can’t absorb all the data…you are ahead of the game.
